京都の伝統織物「西陣織」

西織は、多品種小生産が特徴の京都・西地区で生産される先染（さきぞめ）の紋織物で、日本の高級織物の代名詞としても過言ではありません。 平安の世から、皇族・朝廷の衣裳として用いられてきました。

金箔や銀箔を細く切った「箔」と呼ばれる糸を織りこむ技術を活かし、20を超える製造工程を経て、美しい色彩と繊細な文様が特徴の西陣織は織り上がっていきます。

1976年、12種類の技術・技法の「西陣織」が日本の伝統的な工芸品として認定されました。その伝統と品質は、いつの時代も高く評価され続けています。
